Rating: ⭐⭐⭐☆☆ (3/5) Dhamaal 4 Review
Spoiler Warning: This review contains major spoilers from Dhamaal 4. If you haven’t watched the film yet, consider bookmarking this page and coming back later.
After years of anticipation, Dhamaal 4 finally brings back the franchise’s trademark madness with an ensemble cast led by Ajay Devgn, Riteish Deshmukh, Arshad Warsi, Jaaved Jaaferi, Sanjay Mishra, Ravi Kishan, and several new faces. Directed by Indra Kumar, the film sticks to the familiar formula of chaotic treasure hunting, slapstick comedy, and over-the-top situations. Critics and audiences have been divided, with many praising the clean family entertainment while others felt the humor leaned too heavily on recycled ideas and weak visual effects.
If you walk into the theatre expecting another Dhamaal packed with nonstop surprises, you may find this installment a mixed bag. But if your goal is to switch off your brain for two hours and enjoy absurd comedy, Dhamaal 4 still has enough moments to keep you smiling.
Story (Spoilers Ahead)
The story once again revolves around a bizarre treasure hunt. A group of eccentric characters accidentally discovers clues pointing toward the mysterious “Treasure of Life.” Naturally, greed takes over, and multiple rival groups begin chasing the same prize.
What follows is exactly what longtime fans would expect:
- endless misunderstandings,
- ridiculous escapes,
- double-crosses,
- mistaken identities,
- wild action sequences,
- and plenty of physical comedy.
The screenplay rarely pauses to explain its logic because logic isn’t really the point here. Instead, the movie focuses on creating one comic situation after another.
The biggest surprise arrives near the climax, where the treasure isn’t simply about wealth but carries an emotional twist intended to give the adventure more meaning. While the reveal adds some heart, it doesn’t completely escape the predictability that surrounds much of the second half.
Performances
Ajay Devgn
Ajay Devgn once again proves that his comic timing has improved tremendously over the years. His deadpan reactions often become funnier than the jokes themselves, and he manages to anchor many scenes that would otherwise feel chaotic.
Riteish Deshmukh
Riteish Deshmukh arguably steals several scenes. His expressions, body language, and effortless comic delivery remind audiences why he remains one of Bollywood’s strongest comedy actors.
Arshad Warsi & Jaaved Jaaferi
The original chemistry between Arshad Warsi and Jaaved Jaaferi continues to work. Even when the screenplay becomes repetitive, their interactions provide genuine laughs.
Supporting Cast
Sanjay Mishra and Ravi Kishan inject additional energy whenever they appear. Some new characters receive limited development, but they contribute enough comic moments to justify their presence.
Direction
Director Indra Kumar clearly understands what audiences expect from the Dhamaal franchise. Rather than reinventing the series, he plays it safe.
That approach is both the film’s biggest strength and biggest weakness.
Fans receive exactly what they came for:
- exaggerated comedy,
- cartoonish action,
- impossible situations,
- and nonstop chaos.
However, viewers hoping for fresh storytelling may feel disappointed because many sequences resemble earlier entries in the franchise.
Screenplay
The screenplay works best during the first half.
The pace is quick, jokes arrive frequently, and the adventure builds nicely.
Unfortunately, the second half becomes repetitive. Several scenes stretch longer than necessary, and some comic situations repeat familiar ideas already seen in previous Dhamaal films.
Even so, the movie avoids becoming boring because something ridiculous is almost always happening on screen.
Comedy
Comedy remains the heart of the film.
Some jokes genuinely land, especially those driven by character interactions rather than dialogue.
However, not every gag succeeds.
Certain jokes feel outdated, and some viewers have criticized portions of the humor, including weight-related jokes involving Anjali Anand, which sparked discussion after release. Director Indra Kumar defended those scenes as contextual rather than intended as personal mockery.
Music & Background Score
The soundtrack is serviceable rather than memorable.
The songs appear at appropriate moments but don’t leave a lasting impression.
The background score, however, complements the comic situations well and helps maintain the film’s energetic pace.
Cinematography & VFX
The locations look colorful and vibrant.
Unfortunately, the CGI becomes one of the film’s weakest technical aspects.
Several visual effects appear artificial and occasionally distract from otherwise entertaining sequences. This has been one of the most common criticisms from both reviewers and audiences.
What Works
- Strong ensemble cast
- Riteish Deshmukh and Arshad Warsi deliver consistent laughs
- Fast-paced first half
- Family-friendly entertainment
- Nostalgic Dhamaal vibe
- Lighthearted adventure suitable for casual viewing
What Doesn’t Work
- Predictable storyline
- Weak CGI in several sequences
- Repetitive jokes
- Uneven second half
- Some humor feels outdated
- Few genuine surprises for longtime fans
Climax Explained
The climax brings every rival group together in a final race for the treasure.
Predictably, greed causes everyone to turn against one another before the truth about the “Treasure of Life” is revealed. Rather than relying solely on material riches, the ending attempts to underline themes of friendship, family, and shared experiences, giving the finale a more emotional tone.
Post-Credit Scene
The movie includes a post-credit teaser confirming that the franchise is set to continue with Dhamaal 5. The announcement has already generated considerable discussion online, with reports indicating that filmmaker Farhad Samji is attached to direct the next installment.
Final Verdict
Dhamaal 4 doesn’t reinvent the franchise, but it doesn’t completely lose its charm either.
If you loved the earlier films purely for their ridiculous humor and don’t mind switching off logic, you’ll probably enjoy this latest adventure. If you’re looking for a fresh screenplay, innovative comedy, or polished visual effects, this installment may leave you wanting more.
It’s a decent family entertainer that succeeds through its cast more than its writing.
